Website Tip - How to build a Web site for $0 - Part 1

There are several ways to do it. If you want to make it from scratch, you're probably going to need to have your own HTML creation program, such as FrontPage (Expression Web, DreamWeaver, etc.).

If you don't have one, it's still possible to do it just in Notepad.

So one thing to do is to find a Web site you like. So you can do that with the Web site you like. Then save the page as an HTML file. Then open the HTML file in Notepad. Then you can tweak the HTML code and keep saving it out as an HTML file.

Then you double click the HTML file whenever you want to look at how it's progressing (because Notepad will just show you the code, not what it actually looks like).

The basic idea is that you then keep working on and tweaking the site. Look at the source of other pages (Click View and then Source) and compare as you figure out the code. Don't stop until your site is visually different than the Web site you initially saved, including swapping out all the images.

Eventually you'll want to rent space from Go Daddy (or another hosting provider) and dump your files up there, by using their Web site or by just dumping to an FTP folder.

Animation Tip: How to start animating

Paint and Movie Maker. Those are free, and that's all you need. Those are bare bones though (not the best tools by far). Other better tools are editors (like Final Cut or Premiere), Flash, and ToonBoom. Even Photoshop is better than Paint.

So animating is a skill, like flying an airplane. You learn a tiny bit at a time.

So for step 1 of animating, find a picture of a face. Take it into Paint and open the mouth a little, save that picture as something separate, open the mouth even more, and save that one. Then take your three pictures (closed mouth, open a little, and open a lot), and put them into Movie Maker. Record your voice talking or find a voice clip. Then time up those three images to the voice.

That's a good way to start animating.

The Muppets "The 12 Days of Christmas"

I know it's past Christmas, but I couldn't help but post this Christmas song from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.



Not exactly animation, but puppetry is quite an art!

And Disney bought the Muppets brand from Jim Henson, which makes this a collaboration between Disney and NBC. NBC is part of NBC Universal, which is owned by GE. So essentially this is a collab between Universal and Disney.

Seeing how, under Robert Iger, Disney has bought the Muppets, Pixar, Marvel, and even Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Walt's pre-Mickey character), Disney is really soaring under Iger's leadership. They (Lasseter and team) just need to give Disney their first bonafide animation hit since Tarzan. Unfortunately, Bolt and Princess and the Frog just didn't break the jinx. Hopefully next year's Rapunzel will do the trick.

Rapunzel is scheduled to hit theaters in November 24th 2010.

Our lead heroine is voiced by Mandy Moore while Chuck’s Zachary Levi will play a “dashing bandit” named Flynn Ryder who hits the road with the “rebellious, teenage hair apparent.” The voice cast is also rumored to include David Schwimmer, Matthew Gary Gubler, Kristin Chenoweth, Dan Fogler, and Grey DeLisle. is scheduled to hit theaters in Christmas 2010.
