Bolt is Out Now

Domestic Total as of Nov. 23, 2008: $26,223,128

The original feature was being animated by the Lilo & Stitch writer and director (Chris Sanders; also the voice of Stitch on the movie, DVD sequels, and TV show). When John Lasseter took over (as the CCO), he spent a full day tearing the film apart (then called American Dog). The director couldn’t take his creation being destroyed like that, so he left and went to DreamWorks to direct a caveman animated film that is written by John Cleese (Crood Awakening, 2011).

Lasseter promoted a story artist (Chris Williams) and assisted the help of the Rapunzel director (Byron Howard) to finish Bolt the “right” way (Lasseter said it was too quirky for its own good).
